Avoiding Delays With Your Shipment

We ship hundreds of orders every month to addresses all over the world. Shipping to most locations in North America only takes a few business days and our customers are often surprised with the efficiency and timeliness in which they receive their orders. However, if an error is made on your shipping label the result is lengthy delays and, often, the order is returned to us.

We enter all address information as it appears on the original order form submitted by our customers. It is ultimately the customer's responsibility to ensure that the address they have given us is complete and correct. If an order is returned to us due to incorrect address information, the customer will be responsible for any additional charges that incur including original shipping cost, returned shipment fee and the cost of re-sending the order a second time. To avoid unnecessary delays and additional charges with your shipment, here are a few quick guidelines to keep in mind when placing your order -

Always take time to carefully review your order information and notify our Customer Service department immediately if you notice any errors. Missing apartment/suite numbers and incorrect postal codes are the most common errors.Our Customer Service can be reached by phone or email; as long as your order hasn't already been shipped from our warehouse, we can adjust your address information accordingly. Unfortunately, once a shipment has been picked up by Canada Post or FedEx and is en route we are unable to make any changes.

If your billing and shipping addresses are different, make sure you have correctly selected the right address for shipping. We have had several customers accidentally enter their billing address in the "shipping address" portion of the order form. Make sure that the address showing on the left-hand side of your order form is indeed the address you want your order shipped to.

Be sure to include your apartment number. Never assume that your concierge or building manager will be able to accept the package for you or that the delivery person already knows your apartment number. Orders that are shipped to an apartment or condo complex without an apartment number on the label are always deemed "undeliverable" and are returned to our office.

If your order is being shipped to a business located in an office tower, shopping complex, etc you must include the suite or unit number. Including your company's name is also strongly recommended. As explained above, not including your company's suite number usually results in the order being returned to sender.

Track your order online. All of our orders are insured and trackable. You can track your order's delivery status to find out when to expect it. If you have any concerns about your shipment or notice any unusual updates, we recommend calling our Customer Service department or Canada Post/FedEx as soon as possible for clarification.

Setting Your Flat Iron's Temperature ...

"I just received my flat iron and have been using it every day. I set the iron at 450 degrees but this morning it would only go up to 230 degrees. No matter how many times I press the "up" button and try to raise the temperature, it remains stuck at 230 degrees and won't change. Please help!"

Our Customer Service department has received many emails and phone calls from customers over the past few months with questions similar to the one above. Many customers believe their flat iron has become defective or is broken but, usually, the iron is actually working just fine and the issue can be resolved quickly and simply.

Several of the flat irons* we sell have two temperature settings - Celsius and Fahrenheit. These irons have a temperature capacity of 230 degrees Celsius or 446 degrees Fahrenheit (shown on the temperature display as 450 degrees). The display format can be changed to show the iron's temperature in either Celsius or Fahrenheit, depending on the customer's preference. Occasionally, the format setting is changed accidentally. If your flat iron suddenly won't heat higher than 230 degrees, it probably means the setting has been switched from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

The actual temperature is the same (230°C = 450°F) and this change will not affect the iron's performance. However, if you wish to switch the temperature setting back to Fahrenheit it is quite easy to do so. Simply unplug the iron, then plug it back into an outlet. Press down on the "power" and the "+" buttons simultaneously for a few seconds. The screen will show "F" first, then "450". Your iron has now been set to Fahrenheit. To switch the setting to Celsius, follow those steps but press down on the "power" and the "-" buttons. Your screen will show "C" and then "230", indicating that the setting has been changed to Celsius.

A KQC Emergency ...

Earlier this week, our Customer Service department received an urgent email from a customer who believed her new KQC iron was defective. "The on-off switch keeps blinking red," she wrote, "If this one is defective, can you rush me a new one? I need it for a wedding this weekend!"

Imagine her surprise when we wrote back to let her know that her iron wasn't defective - quite the opposite, actually. A flashing red light means the iron has reached the desired temperature and is ready to use. When you move the dial to a new temperature, the light will be steady and will begin flashing once it has reached the set temperature. It literally takes only a few seconds. The red light will temporarily shut off when the iron is being decreased to a lower temperature setting and while resume blinking once the iron has adjusted to the new temperature.

"Wow," replied our customer. "That is amazing. It gets hot much quicker than my other iron!"

The KQC has heat settings ranging from 140° to 410° F. We recommend beginning with the lowest heat setting and increasing gradually as needed for your hair type and texture. Lower heat settings are recommended for fine or damaged hair; higher heat settings can be used for thick hair that is difficult to manage.

The Keratin Controversy

There has been much talk in the media lately regarding the safety of keratin-based salon hair straightening treatments. Specifically, the controversy has centered around the fact that Formaldehyde (a suspected carcinogen) was found in many of the treatments' formulas as well as in the air after the treatment had been performed. Although many of these companies claim their products are "Formaldehyde free" and argue that they are perfectly safe to use, independent tests have shown that some of these formulas contain levels of formaldehyde as high as 8%. Many salons have even pulled the treatments after workers complained of eye irritation, respiratory discomfort and other side effects.

The attention given to salon treatments has now spilled over to at-home treatments and consumers are paying closer attention to the ingredients of products they are using. All of us here at Fabove.ca are committed to ensuring that the products we offer our customers are safe to use and that they meet all of the Health Canada regulations and guidelines. As a curly girl myself, I know that spotting a new product which promises "perfect curls" and "zero frizz" is too tempting to ignore. Unfortunately, most of these products don't live up to their promises and end up piling up in my bathroom. There are, however, a few key products that have proven their effectiveness time and time again. Here's a quick list of some key products available on the Fabove website that I believe every curly-haired girl should try for herself ...

Denman Classic 7 Row Styling Brush (D-3)

This best-selling brush is perfect for all hair types - including thick, curly hair! Unlike many brushes which have little "balls" on the tips of the bristles, the Denman brushes have smooth, firm nylon bristles that won't get caught in your hair as you're trying to detangle. The ends of the bristles are slightly rounded, so they also won't scratch your scalp as you comb. For best results with curly hair, use a generous amount of leave-in conditioner and use the Denman brush to comb the conditioner through your wet hair. Not only will a professional iron save you money in the long-run, but they're made with the most modern of technologies and are specially designed to protect your hair from long-term damage. It's the kind of investment that will benefit your wallet and your hair.

It's important to remember, though, that flat irons - even the best of the best - are not invincible. When cared for properly, the average professional iron lasts for years. However, when instructions are not followed or the iron is handled carelessly damage can, and often does, occur.

Here are a five simple reminders and tips on how to keep your professional flat iron in excellent condition ~

1. Clean your iron after every use. You can use a damp cloth to clean any product residue off your iron's plates. If you use many hair styling products during straightening, you may want to consider purchasing the Hot Tools Professional Flat Iron Cleanser to ensure that no product residue is missed. When your iron's plates are dirty, they become unable to evenly distribute heat, making it very difficult for you to obtain that smooth straight look.
